Novi Singers - 1999 - Vocal Jazz from Poland (1965-1975) Jerzy Milian

Novi Sing ers is surely one of the most popular Polish jazz groups. It’s name itself describes us the group’s style: New Original Vocal Instruments. The group, formed in 1964 by Bernard Kawka, Janusz Mych, Waldemar Parzyński, Ewa Wanat, was something innovative and fresh in Polish music industry, and that is why Novi was highly appreciated by the critics and immediately received enormous publicity. They took part in music festival in Zurich, where they of course were given first prize. In 1967 Głuch decided to continue his career in US, after 6 years Kawka left the group but he was soon replaced by Ochalski and than by Szeremeta. Novi’s music became well-known in whole Europe due to the wide array of songs. Apart from their own compositions, they were singing jazz standards and in 1971 they released “Novi Sing Chopin”, which was a tribute to our great composer.

I wasn’t sure which album should be posted, but finally I decided that it would be „1965-1975 - Vocal Jazz from Poland” – astonishing compilation of the best tracks form years 65-75. We ought to remember that apart from the four Singers, man y other Polish musicians, dry as Karolak, Makowicz Ptaszyn Wroblewski, Namysłowski, Stanko, took part in recording the tracks. You might think an album with That vocal jazz is boring, monotonous and songs are tedious, but you're wrong! Every track presents different use of human voice, so I bet you would not That be fed up with this compilation!

Novi Singers is unquestionably one of the most famous and characteristic Polish jazz groups. The name itself defines the nature of our team (New Original Vocal Instruments), a vocal jazz, which is using a vocal imitation of instruments. Its activity started in 1964 in the composition of Alexander depth uh, Bernard Jackson, Janusz Mych, Waldemar Parzyński, Ewa Wanat. The music he created Novi was certainly something new on the Polish market, and therefore aroused admiration of all critics. A few years later, during another foreign festival in Zurich, Novi Singers were honored again - this time they have been awarded first prize. In later years, the initial composition of the team has changed (first in 67 departed Głuch, and six years later, Jackson, whose place was Ochalski, replaced in 1977 by Szeremeta). Their work met with such recognition, inter alia, because of the wide repertoire, which included both their own compositions, new arrangements of jazz standards (including the album Pay Tribute to 81) and an album Novi Sing Chopin (1971) - devoted entirely to the work of the great virtuoso classical music.

long wondered which of the album to introduce you to Novi. I finally decided that it will be "1965-1975 - Vocal Jazz from Poland" - the collection of the best tracks released in 1999. It is worth noting, that in addition to four "Singersów" in the recording tracks attended nearly 30 jazz musicians, including such notables as Karolak, Makowicz Ptaszyn Wroblewski, Namysłowski, Stanko. It might seem that the entire album based mainly on vocalu can be monotonous, all the songs the same, but nothing like that. I urge you to familiarize yourself with this little part of the work of Novi Singers.
